It's not what you say it's the way that you say it... for the British Council

I'm very excited to be giving a talk for the British Council on Thursday of this week with my dear colleague and co-author Sarah Shepherd.  The event is about the 'politics of pronunciation, and it's taking place at the British Council HQ on Thursday evening. There's still a chance to register to attend in person, I think. Or if you're not in London you can sign up to watch it via the livestream, where you'll be able to ask your questions via tweet. Or if you miss it, you can watch it after the event too.

testing, testing

Been a bit quiet on the blog front lately, because it's been very much not quiet on every other front! Especially the book front! Things are starting to get very exciting: we spent all day yesterday recording the audio that accompanies the book. I was beind the mic for 8 hours, with the sharpest ears in showbiz (Sarah Shepherd) checking my every vowel and consonant. It was humbling to get back in front of the microphone, it reminded me of the complex task my clients are dealing with: juggling technical demands with creative expression.

The glamorous world of publishing

It's been an exciting and busy few months. I've been putting the final touches to my book 'Work on Your Accent', which is due to be published by HarperCollins in August 2012.

I'm so excited about the project. I've been co-authoring with the wonderful Sarah Shepherd, and with the help of our fantastic editors I think we've created a really useful practical guide. It's going to be a must-have for anyone who speaks English as a second language and wants to learn about British accents and pronunciation.

More to come on that soon. For now, I better get back to work!
